Kanyathon has been so much more than just an event for all the people involved, I believe it was a chance for all of us to actually do something for all the people who are not as privileged as us. It was a chance for all the diverse students within the university to come together for a noble cause – to educate and respond.

Kanyathon is an event organized to spread awareness about the importance of educating and empowering girls. Through the course of this event we interacted with various villagers, trying to understand their perspective on this issue and to spread the message of Kanyathon.

We visited nearby schools to organize a Hindi/Marathi concert to create awareness.. We spoke with the principals, the teachers and even the Sarpanch to make this happen and seeing their excitement about the message of Kanyathon was extremely motivating.

On the 1st of April we went to Raigarh,Zilla Parishad for the concert and we had an audience of about 500 people which included students, teachers, villagers and their families.

We then organized a Charity Awareness concert on the 2nd of April to create awareness about the cause for all the students of the university.

The main event took place on the 3rd of April, which was the 3km run itself where all the students, their parents, friends and relatives were invited. The invitation was also open to all the nearby villages and students from the schools/colleges around the university. The run was followed by a fun charity carnival which included food stalls and performances by the students.

The most interesting part was to witness students working around their hectic schedules to make the event a success. The sheer willingness of each to get the job done no matter what, was commendable.

It definitely left a mark on each and every one that showed up for the events.
